According to information from the Institute for Automotive Studies (IEA), sales of electric cars during the first six months of the year stood at 328 units, representing an increase of 36.67% with respect to the same period in 2012. The results show that the perception of consumers with regard to electric vehicles has improved considerably and that the aid for the purchase of sustainable vehicles is functioning.
In Catalonia, 61 electric cars were sold up to the month of June, 48.78% more than during the same period last year.
Furthermore, another important fact about the status of electric mobility in Spain is the country’s relevant international position in patents and utility model applications related to electric vehicles. The highest annual increase took place over the past 3 years, with an 800% increase in the number of patents requested in 2012 (27) compared to 2006 (3).
