Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism has launched its Push strategy for Alternative Energy Vehicles (AEV) 2014-2020 in Spain. This project comprises 30 actions designed to position Spain at the forefront of the alternative energy sector applied to transport, which includes vehicles powered by electricity, Compressed Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas amongst others. These actions fall within 3 major areas:
1. Industrialisation: to boost the alternative energy vehicles offer by promoting production. In this sense, LIVE is working to push economic growth, entrepreneurship and development in the sustainable mobility sector within the country.
2. Market: to provide incentives for the acquisition of alternative energy vehicles. Indeed, awareness of cases of users that are already satisfactorily using this type of vehicles is one of the best ways of encouraging others to purchase them. This is another of the objectives put forward by LIVE. The programme presented includes a series of measures in this sense: two of the most important are prioritising the fleet market (public and private) and launching a drive for a beneficial tax policy.
3. Infrastructure: to promote an infrastructure network that meets users’ mobility needs.
This strategy has been devised by an inter-ministerial working group and has benefited from contributions made by the Autonomous Communities, local organisations and a number of sector associations such as the LIVE Platform.
The strategy is considered a major step forward for the sector as it has laid the foundations for a framework project agreed on by all the sector’s stakeholders. Here at the LIVE Platform we will continue to work to support the development of the axes and actions presented as part of this Alternative Energy Vehicle strategy.
