EVS27 has 4 major areas: Scientific Congress, Dissemination Project, Exposition and Ride & Drive.
The exposition area has been an important part of the event during the 26 EVS that have been held in all parts of the world in the last 45 years. It seeks to attract the attention of the industrial sector in general and the major car manufacturers in particular. Nissan is the main sponsor, with a large presentation and stand in the exhibition area. Renault and BMW, with large stands in this area, present their latest models BEV, Plug-in Hybrid. Then, ten countries members of AVERE have pavilions in the exhibition area that represent the importance of electric mobility for governments and policy makers of the world. Quebec and China have presence in this area. The manufacturers of components and batteries, with their latest production are also gonna be present in the EVS27 Expo. Of course, AVERE and AVELE with two stands has its active presence presenting their projects and partners. The City Council of Barcelona, as an important part of the city, apart from the civic activities that has organized last weekend, has every day of the EVS27 a stand and is actively present.
2)What can we find new in the EVS27 that we have not seen in previous congresses?
The EVS series started being celebrated every 18 months, and they did it continuously since the year 1968 with EVS1 in United States. Each celebration and each EVS logically fits the global development of the sector. In EVS27, with 480 projects only in Europe, for the first time the International Program Committee (IPC EVS27) approved the separation of Scientific Projects section. We open two sessions to spread international projects: sessions Lecture and Dialogue. We also have the knowledge and the official support of the European Union. To give historical significance to the academic portion of the event, EVS27 for the first time after a year of brainstorming, AVERE has the support of the world’s most famous scientific society: IEEE.
With it the universities teatchers and industry scientists have the opportunity to publish their papers presented at EVS27 in IEEE magazine.
3)How do you think such events help in the promotion of electric mobility?
In different parts of EVS27, you can find several important representatives of the four players in the electric mobility sector: government agencies, car manufacturers industry, the energy sector and the user and associations representatives of the sector. The direct contact of these important four players of the industry will facilitate the study, the dialogue and the questions and doubts, including this sector key question: How and with what means can we create a mass market for the electric and hybrid vehicles, PHEV or BEV in the public and private sector? Its curious that the sales after each EVS in the host coubntry rises significantly. Norway after EVS24, China after EVS25, U.S. in general and California in particular after EVS26. From AVELE and AVERE we hope that despite the economic crisis in Spain, after EVS27 in Catalonia and especially Barcelona, it happens the same as in China, Norway or California after the EVS’s past editions.
4)What do you think are the most urgent measures to be carried out in different countries to promote the use of electric vehicles?
After so many years of experience in the industry and thanks to the the development of the ICT, each week in AVERE in Brussels there is numbers and studies of the member Associations of different countries. This way we can share and distribute positive and negative experiences. We continually learn from each other. After EVS24, with the participation of the Prince, ministers and many policy makers, the Norwegian government took very specific steps in favour of the market for electric mobility on taxes, charges and free parking in downtown and public areas, bus lines that can be used by all electric vehicles, among others. These measures have been very successful, and last month the sale of electric vehicles, hybrid and plug-in hybrids got 15% of the total sales in the country, while in Spain, for now, is only 0.06% of the total enrollment. The Norwegian model will be shown massively during the EVS27 in the exhibition area and in 3 major presentations on the science area.
5)And finally, what do you think will be the future of electric mobility in European cities and Barcelona?
In WEVA, AVERE and AVELE, we are convinced that there is no going back for the development of electric mobility in general and worldwide. Undoubtedly, in the XXI century we will not go trought the same that happened three times at different points in the XX century in electric mobility. Thanks to nature, China with 1,200 million people, without having oil or gas in a significant way, started decades ago with the mass production of scooters and after EVS25, and over the last five years have many models of electric vehicles in mass production, and most of them are for their own use. The large Japanese manufacturers and their new plug-in hybrid models are the proof that is possible and that there is no turning back. The seven larger and famous manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe for years have earned the trust of users worldwide, now they are committed to put on the market the hybrids and plug-in Hybrids on the spring of 2014. These 7 famous and prestigious manufacturers are another guarantee for the electric mobility market in XXI century.[:]
