In mid-January was launched a pioneering initiative at European level in order to demonstrate both the economic and social viability and also environmental of the use of urban electric buses, the ZeUS (Zero Emission Urban Bus System) project. The initiative has a budget of 22.2 million euros, and it will have a period of 3 years of research. The company Endesa is the only Spanish electrical that takes part on the project consortium and it’s one of the two representatives of the European electricity sector.
Endesa along with 40 other partners, including companies that are Spanish and European leaders institutions, will come together to perform the necessary tests to make such a demonstration in Barcelona, the only Spanish city representative on the project. As for the Spanish partners involved in the show you can find Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Irizar, GMV and Enide.
For the Barcelona demonstration plan it will be used four electric buses and four speed loaders. The electric company will be responsable for designing an intelligent charging system, monitorazing the impact of the recharge of the electric network and to to link the project with the Green eMotion, also related to the electric mobility.
Along with the Catalan capital, in the cities of Bonn, Plzen, Muenster and an Italian city it will be carried out tests with 100% electric buses while in London, Glasgow and Stockholm, cities that are also demonstrators, you will find hybrid and extended-range vehicles.
