Electric vehicles are now more profitable than hybrid and combustible fuel vehicles, according to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPR) in its report comparing the purchase, driving and maintenance costs of different vehicles in the United States.
The highest expenditure for electric vehicles is their price, which is offset by the long-term savings they bring. 60 months after purchasing an electric vehicle, the owner will have saved an average of €5,200 and this figure could be increased, considering the benefits and aid offered by different cities to owners of ecological vehicles (free public recharging, free parking in city centres, subsidies for purchasing these vehicles…).
The electric vehicles selected for the study were the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt. These cars were compared with other similar vehicles over a usage period of five years.[:]
