ECOseries, the first European championship based on energy-saving and alternative energies, recorded its best-ever participant figure in a race held at the Catalonia Circuit. Unlike other competitions of this type in which speed is the most important factor, on this occasion the winner is the person who drives in the most efficient and regular manner. During the second race of the season, held on 25 May, the event had a record participation of 28 vehicles, including 7 electrical and 7 hybrid vehicles manufactured by 10 different firms.
Following the success obtained at this fourth edition, the organiser, the Catalan Automobile Federation, increased its expectations with respect to the third race of the season which is foreseen for 29 June at the RACC ECORally and set itself the objective of surpassing the 30 vehicles taking part. The championship is open to any person with a driver’s licence and to all types of mass-produced, vintage and prototype vehicles as well as vehicles propelled by alternative energy or electricity.
Through the LIVE Barcelona platform, both the Catalan Institute for Energy (ICAEN) and Barcelona City Council have supported this initiative as a way to promote the use of clean energies, even on a competitive scale.
