Seventy international experts participated on 24 and 25 April at the “Promoting sustainable urban mobility solutions.” It was organized by the City of Barcelona and the United Nations Programme for Human Settlements UN-Habitat. Adrià Gomila, Mobility manager of Barcelona City Council presented the draft of the new bus network that is taking place in the city as an example of application of intelligent technologies in sustainable mobility.
The new network scheme based on an orthogonal and diagonal lines, has as main features: Optimize the tours, reserve more spaces at collective transport, strengthen service information and improves the frequency to obtain a more effective and attractive service user. This year is estimated to reach 14 lines and carry 40% of the total fare.
At the meeting, Barcelona was made as an example of commitment to electric mobility solutions, as it is considered one of the most important cities in the world to make significant progress in the adoption of electric propulsion. This ensures the entire chain of electric mobility in urban transport, distribution of goods of proximity management that is necessary in the charging infrastructure and mobility policies suitable for an attractive offer to customers and users.
According to the conclusions of the experts meeting in Barcelona, the stakes for electric vehicles provides an opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions from road transport and help to contain the rise in global temperature of the planet. According to the International Energy Agency, the widespread use of electric vehicles expected in 2050 can help reduce CO2 emissions by 30%.
