Until 21st September, the city is hosting the largest gathering of electric vehicles in Southern Europe.
Last Friday, 14th September, the second edition of the largest electric vehicles event in Southern Europe, kicked off in Barcelona with a pioneering initiative that aims to promote energy saving and efficient driving, as well as consolidating the position of the electric vehicle as an urban and interurban alternative.
With EXPOelèctric Fórmula-e the city has become a showcase for electric vehicles and the latest energy saving technologies. The event is also a meeting place for experts, brands and the general public.
The busiest Electric Tour in Spain
Among the events at the EXPOelèctric Fórmula-e the first Electric Tour stands out, which on Friday 14th September, brought together a hundred electric vehicles and became the largest meeting in Spain. 76 cars, 18 electric motorbikes and a hybrid lorry left from places such as Lloret de Mar, Terrassa, Llinars del Vallès and Martorell and converged on the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona.
The event, organised by the Association of Catalan Electric Vehicle Promoters, Volt-Tour, was attended by Rafael Mestre, the first driver to make a round-the-world trip in a 100% electric vehicle.
9,000 people participated at the EXPOtest Elèctric
On Saturday 15th September, nearly 9,000 people participated in the test day EXPOtest Electric, where more than 1,050 test drives of electric vehicles were carried out (600 car and the remainder between motorbikes and electric bicycles) under the guidance of the 42 exhibitors and representatives of the principal makes in the sector.
They were also able to resolve any doubts about range limits, location of charging points, cost of maintenance and technical operation of vehicles on e-Conference days in which the LIVE project participated.
Future electric mobility activities
Efficient mobility professionals can participate in the e-Jornades (from 20th to 21st September), conferences debating the most current topics relating to electric mobility, and see displays of the ECOseries electric vehicles at the Circuit de Castellolí (Saturday 22nd September), where production vehicles, classics, prototypes or those powered by alternative energies will compete on a day when the quickest won’t win, but rather whoever drives most efficiently.
EXPOelèctric Fórmula-e is promoted by Barcelona City Council, the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), the Barcelona College of Technical Industrial Engineers (CETIB) and the Regional Council of Barcelona, and with the support of Plataforma LIVE Barcelona for the promotion of electric vehicles, the Catalan association of electric vehicles, Volt-Tour, the Circuit de Catalunya and the Catalan Automobile Federation (FCA).[:]
